Alternative Energy
Can you have Homemade Electricity? Yes you can? If we can put a man on the moon, then we can certainly generate electricity for our own homes. It’s just we have never been encouraged to go down this road, as obviously the utility companies want us to use their energy supplies.
Electricity is a form of energy just like heat and light. But, naturally occurring electric sources are difficult to find. Also, most produce very little power.
There are a few ways already available to create Homemade Electricity. We have the options of Wind Turbines, Solar Panels and the exciting emergence of the technology to build these systems yourself for your own home.
First, let’s look at Wind Generators. They are used to convert Wind to Electricity. But, you must always have wind!! I have to say the large commercial projects I have seen with rows of Wind Turbines on hillsides do look quite spectacular. From the Green point of view they are very acceptable.
A wind generator is a dynamo connected to a turbine that is rotated by the wind. The turbine collects the wind energy, while the dynamo converts the mechanical force of the wind to electricity. Compared to Solar Panels, Wind generators are slightly more efficient. But, of course, the Wind turbine must be placed where the wind is strongest to do its work.
Second, we have Solar Panels. They are totally reliant on Sunlight so this has to be a consideration. Solar Panels are made up of photovoltaic cells, or ,to put it simply, light energy to electricity converters. The rays from the sun activate the cells which produces voltage. They are quite expensive to purchase and install, so this has to be a consideration against the possible savings in electricity bills.
Respectively, a Solar Panel and Wind Generator will not produce electricity if sun or wind are not present. The solution to this problem is to store their generated energy to a battery. You must be careful when using batteries, especially those with a high ‘MAH’ rating. (the power a batter can store) They can produce fatal levels of current if short circuited. Also, never attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries.
Now you know what is available to make’ Homemade Electricity.’ Just put in a little research and see what suits your needs best and of course, the climate in your area. Solar Panels and Wind Turbines for home use can now be built using your own do it yourself plans – they are some of ideas for the future to provide Homemade Electricity.
